Autumn can’t stop romance

Autumn can’t stop romance

In a recent survey conducted by Wet, a sexual lubricant company, 60 percent of respondents said they feel sexier in the spring/summer than they do in the fall/winter. Surely the excitement of a new conquest is carried in the spring air while all the animals are getting down to business.

The sexiness of fall, however, is something much more subtle. Autumn is the teasing burlesque dancer to spring’s Snooki. She’s far more sophisticated, classy and mysteriously magnetic than the obvious, aggressive and unpolished warmer months.

After a summer of skin-baring, there’s something so alluring about covering up. It’s not that you forget what someone looks like under there; it’s just that now you have to imagine it. See! By adding a jacket, I’m already picturing you naked. The extra clothes just make the final stripped layer that much more rewarding—like a present!

Autumn is on the side of the lovers, offering countless opportunities to snuggle up. From the smell of the leaves to the damp chill in the air, if you lose focus for even a moment, suddenly you are holding someone’s hand. It’s intoxicating. Add to that the countless opportunities to scare yourself inhibitionless at a haunted house or sneak off for some alone time lost in a corn maze.

It’s no secret that Chicago dating is fully tied to the seasons. The Winter Boo is basically tradition, just like dying the river green or the Cubs losing. You kinda expect it in a nostalgic type of way. Being flirty in the fall isn’t just fun; it’s a survival tactic! Why do you think girls will sexify any Halloween costume? That holiday is our last chance dance!

Our libidos take on a fully different mindset in the crisp fall wind. As Eva Cassidy sings, “I miss you most of all, my darling, when autumn leaves start to fall.” During the fall season, we are seemingly seeking all forms of comfort. Soft sweaters, hot drinks and home-cooked hearty meals serve as a backdrop for our instinctual need to find a nest and huddle together with the pack. And there are few things more comforting than the security of a relationship.

I’m even finding myself toying with the idea. Is it just autumn’s cinnamon and pumpkin-laced siren call, or am I really ready to do this all over again? Only spring will tell.
